Old Prices, New Enquiries: When a Xiaohongshu Post Outlives the Offer

A customer finds an older Xiaohongshu post, likes the service and asks to book at the price shown in the video. The promotion has ended, but the post is still easy to discover.

For an overseas local business, that creates a practical problem. The content continues introducing the business while also creating an outdated price expectation.

The answer is an update process covering the post, any associated paid promotion and the team's response. A current price list on your website may not be enough when the customer has made their decision from the original content.

Identify which part of the offer has expired

An old post is not automatically inaccurate. A genuine service demonstration may remain useful, while a temporary price or availability claim has become obsolete.

Inspect the cover, video, caption, visible comments and destination together.

Content elementWhat to check
Cover image or opening frameDoes it show an expired price or unconditional offer?
Spoken or written price statementWere eligibility and validity dates included?
CaptionDoes it describe the current service or an older campaign?
Booking instructionIs the route still available and appropriate?
Business informationAre the service area and contact expectations current?
Related promotionIs advertising still distributing the outdated version?

Record the exact mismatch. “Old content” is too broad to tell an owner what needs fixing.

Separate your own content from a creator's post

The business can directly manage the content it owns, subject to the platform's available controls. A creator's post requires the agreed collaboration process.

Check who owns the account, who can approve edits, what revision arrangements were agreed and whether the post is currently being promoted.

Xiaohongshu Pgy's help guidance describes review and revision processes for collaboration content.1 Check the applicable workflow and current post status rather than assuming a brand can edit every published creator post itself.

Do not request deletion as the automatic first step. A useful service demonstration may be worth retaining in an accurately updated form. Conversely, a misleading price embedded throughout the video may require a more substantial correction than a caption amendment.

Keep an offer register

Use one simple record for each promotional asset.

Register fieldWhat to record
AssetPost link and relevant edited versions
OfferApproved price or discount, scope and conditions
ValidityStart date, end date and the event that determines eligibility
OwnerPerson responsible for the business information
PublisherAccount or creator responsible for changes
PromotionAssociated paid activity and who can manage it
Update agreementPermitted edits, approval route and expected response
Review triggerExpiry, price change, service-area change or capacity restriction

Clarify whether an offer applies to an enquiry, a confirmed booking or a completed appointment. Those are different events.

If the original wording is ambiguous, escalate it to the business owner. The intake team should not invent an interpretation or promise a replacement discount without authority.

Use an update sequence that customers can understand

For a hypothetical local cleaning promotion, the service demonstration remains accurate but the introductory package price has expired.

A practical sequence is:

  1. Confirm the current offer and how enquiries referencing the earlier promotion will be handled.
  2. Review and stop any paid distribution that is still presenting the expired offer as current.
  3. Agree the necessary post changes with the account owner or creator.
  4. Correct prominent price information where the available editing process allows it.
  5. Add an accurate current explanation and next step.
  6. Check the revised content, destination and promotion status before distributing it again.

Do not hide the correction at the bottom of a long caption if the old price remains prominent on the cover or in the video. A customer may never reach that explanation.

If a correction cannot be made promptly, decide whether to suspend associated paid activity and what public clarification is feasible. Record what remains outside the business's control, including screenshots or reposts.

Prepare a truthful enquiry response

This is a hypothetical response template, to adapt to the actual offer and business policy:

“Thanks for getting in touch. The post refers to a promotion that ended on [date]. The current service is [brief description], with [current price or quote process]. Please send [required job details] so the team can confirm the available option.”

If the customer may qualify under the original terms, check that eligibility before saying the offer is unavailable. Also review any existing confirmed booking separately; a new campaign update should not silently rewrite an agreement already made.

For Simplified Chinese or Traditional Chinese content, review the correction and response in that written version. Price qualifiers and eligibility dates need the same meaning as the approved business information.

Distinguish an expired promotion from variable pricing

If the service price depends on the job, replacing an old fixed price with a new unexplained number can recreate the problem.

Use the relevant quote inputs, inclusions, exclusions and confirmation process. A genuine starting price needs a defined base job and clear conditions.

The variable-price creator brief can help prepare those details before an update is commissioned.

A historic promotional package may still be described as a past offer when clearly labelled. It should not become an apparently current price for a broader service.

Review expired-offer enquiries as an operating signal

Add a consistent intake label for enquiries that explicitly reference an old offer. Record the source where the customer provides it, the misunderstanding and the eventual outcome.

Useful measures include enquiry volume, how often terms need clarification, current-offer acceptance and time spent handling the issue. Avoid assuming every enquiry with a price question came from that post.

The review can show whether the correction is working and which other assets need attention. It can also identify useful discovery content worth retaining without its obsolete promotion.

Build maintenance into the next collaboration

For future content, agree an expiry review, an update owner and how amendments will be requested. Keep promotional validity visible and separate reusable service footage from temporary offer graphics where practical.

Xiaohongshu marketing for an overseas business needs both a publishing plan and a maintenance plan. When a useful video is approved for another campaign, use the cross-platform creator-video checklist to review the new offer, audience and permissions before reuse.
