A creator has produced a useful video for Xiaohongshu. The business would also like to use the footage in Meta and TikTok campaigns.
Reusing the footage can be practical. The approval decision needs to cover the intended audience, offer, music, paid-use permission and advertising format on each platform.
Treat the video as a source asset with an approved set of uses. Then prepare the versions needed for the actual campaigns. A file that plays successfully is not enough evidence that it is ready to advertise.
Confirm the permitted use before editing
Review the collaboration agreement and ask the responsible owner to resolve missing information.
| Permission field | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Platforms | Where the footage may be published and used in paid advertising |
| Use period | When the permission begins and ends |
| Advertiser | Which business or account may use it |
| Editing | Whether cuts, new overlays, captions and offer graphics are permitted |
| Language adaptation | Whether subtitles or other agreed translations may be added |
| Creator identity | How the creator's image, voice and name may appear |
| Distribution route | Whether the ad is uploaded by the business or promoted through the creator's account |
| Third-party material | Who has cleared music, other people and included assets for the intended use |
Record the agreed answers. Do not interpret “you can post the video” as a complete answer to every paid-use question.
A platform authorization, permission to use the footage and approval of a particular edit serve different purposes. Keep them together in the asset record so the campaign owner can see what is covered.
Check the music separately
A creator's permission does not automatically establish that every included music track can be used in a commercial campaign.
Identify the track, source and scope of its permitted use. Keep a version with separable audio where the agreement and source material allow it.
TikTok's creator-collaboration guidance says Commercial Sounds are intended for use on TikTok and should not be downloaded and reposted on other platforms. It also says music from another platform needs appropriate rights for commercial use on TikTok.1
That makes a cross-platform export decision very concrete. Confirm the music for each intended use, use an appropriately cleared replacement or remove the track. Do not assume a TikTok-safe soundtrack is automatically cleared for Meta or Xiaohongshu.
Also check whether replacing the music requires a new creative approval under the collaboration agreement.
Decide what an unfamiliar viewer needs explained
A creator's followers may already know who they are, where they live and why they chose the business. A paid advertisement can reach people who know none of that.
For a hypothetical overseas local service, the original video might begin with a reference to an earlier post and then show the visit. An adapted ad may need an approved opening that identifies the service, relevant location and purpose of the demonstration.
Do not manufacture a testimonial while shortening the story. Preserve what the creator actually experienced and the limits of any claim.
Review the adaptation around three questions:
- Can a new viewer identify what is being offered?
- Can they tell whether the offer is relevant to their location or situation?
- Does the footage support the promise made by the edited opening?
The aim is a usable explanation for the intended audience, with the original meaning preserved.
Prepare a platform-by-platform review
The following matrix is a planning tool, not a guarantee that the same format or feature is available to every account.
| Check | Xiaohongshu version | Meta version | TikTok version |
|---|---|---|---|
| Viewer context | Explain the service and local relevance in the chosen content format | Introduce the offer to the selected ad audience | Make the use case understandable in the selected ad format |
| Written language | Review the approved script and written version | Review subtitles and offer wording for the audience | Review subtitles and on-screen wording for the audience |
| Next step | Use the contact or transaction route currently permitted for the post and account | Match the selected call to action with its destination | Match the selected ad route with its destination |
| Visual layout | Preview the cover, video and important text | Preview every selected placement | Preview the actual ad format and interface |
| Permission | Confirm the collaboration and promotional use | Confirm the permitted paid use and any creator-account arrangement | Confirm paid use and any required post authorization |
Use current platform previews and requirements for the final export. Important prices, subtitles and product details should remain readable after interface elements or cropping are applied.
Do not approve a whole campaign from one desktop video preview when several placements are selected.
Distinguish uploaded ads from creator-post promotion
An approved video file can be used in the agreed uploaded-ad route. Promoting the creator's own post involves the platform's specific relationship and authorization process.
TikTok Spark Ads use organic TikTok posts, including another creator's posts with their authorization.2 A Xiaohongshu post is not itself a TikTok post that can be selected for Spark Ads.
If Spark Ads are the intended route, confirm the relevant TikTok post and authorization. If a standard uploaded creative is the intended route, check the permitted paid use and selected format instead.
For a Meta creator-account promotion, verify the current account and post permissions for the chosen arrangement. Do not assume that authorization obtained on another platform transfers.
Recheck the offer and language
Confirm current price, service area, availability and any promotion end date before creating the exports.
A useful video may outlast its original discount. Do not carry an expired offer into a new paid campaign merely because it is embedded in a successful old edit. Use the expired Xiaohongshu offer process when that is the source issue.
Prepare English, Simplified Chinese or Traditional Chinese subtitles as appropriate for the audience and approved use. Review price conditions, service terms and the next step in each written version.
Subtitles describe the video. They should not imply that every sales or fulfilment stage is available in the same language. Confirm the actual follow-up process with the team.
Check the destination before spending
Send the customer to the relevant approved destination and test the promised action.
For an enquiry campaign, check that the form works, the team receives the record and the follow-up matches the advertisement. For a product campaign, check the item, price, stock and checkout journey.
Use a consistent naming record for source footage, edit, language, offer and campaign. Keep tracking definitions aligned across the tests while preserving platform-specific attribution limits.
The landing-page acceptance checklist covers the business and journey checks that also apply to creator-led campaigns.
Approve each version and test its business outcome
Keep the source, approved export, permission record, destination and expiry together. Obtain the agreed creator or business approval for material edits before launch.
Evaluate the result within the relevant platform and business context. Raw views or click-through rates across platforms do not provide a controlled comparison because audiences, delivery and metric definitions can differ.
Review qualified enquiries, purchases and acquisition economics with clearly stated definitions. Use engagement evidence to improve the explanation, without treating it as a sales result.
A coordinated Meta Ads, TikTok Ads or Xiaohongshu campaign starts with an approved asset plan. That allows one filming session to support several useful tests while preserving the offer and the creator's actual experience.
