If you are looking for a Chinese marketing agency, you may need several different services: paid advertising, Chinese copy, content production, website support or customer acquisition advice. The right provider depends on which of those jobs matters to your business now.
A larger agency and an independent specialist can both be useful. Team size alone does not tell you whether the provider understands your offer, can manage your campaigns or will explain decisions clearly.
I work as an independent PPC consultant. Clients work directly with me on the agreed advertising scope. That is a particular working model, and it is worth comparing it with an agency model before deciding what you need.
Start by identifying the work you cannot cover internally
Write down the tasks your business can already handle. You may have a designer, someone who updates the website and a sales team comfortable with Chinese enquiries. In that situation, the main gap could be campaign management and measurement.
Another business may need regular filming, extensive content production, creator relationships and several language versions of its website. That project requires a wider set of resources, whether they come from an agency, your own team or separately appointed specialists.
The important point is to identify those dependencies before buying a package. A PPC specialist can recommend creative and landing page changes without taking responsibility for producing every asset or developing the whole website.
Compare the working models, not just the labels
| Your requirement | Questions for an agency | Questions for an independent consultant |
|---|---|---|
| Direct campaign decisions | Who actually manages the account? | Which decisions will you handle personally? |
| Broad production needs | Which specialists are included? | Which tasks need your team or another supplier? |
| Chinese-language review | Who writes and checks the copy? | Which written languages are covered in the scope? |
| Measurement | Who owns tracking checks and fixes? | What can you implement, and what needs development support? |
| Communication | Who explains changes and performance? | How will questions and approvals be handled? |
Use the answers to understand the arrangement. Do not assume that an agency always provides a complete team, or that an independent consultant automatically provides every service personally.
Ask how the provider handles different business goals
An online store and a lead generation business require different judgement. For eCommerce, ask how product economics, purchase measurement and the shopping experience affect decisions. For lead generation, ask how the provider learns whether enquiries are relevant.
Chinese-language expertise should support that commercial understanding. Ask how keyword research, creative and landing pages are adapted to your market. Fluency is useful, but the campaign still needs a sensible offer, reliable measurement and practical optimization.
A useful answer should describe the work. Be cautious about a proposal that jumps directly to guaranteed revenue or assumes the same platform mix will suit every business.
Review proof with its original context
When a provider shows campaign results, look for the reporting period, platform, metric labels and spend. A screenshot becomes more useful when you can see what it actually reports and what remains unknown.
For example, a platform’s conversion value is not automatically profit. A lead count does not establish that every lead became a customer. Attribution settings and the business model matter when interpreting the numbers.
Confidentiality can limit what a specialist may share. An anonymized report with readable dates and metric definitions is more meaningful than an impressive number with no explanation. Ask what work the provider performed rather than relying on client logos alone.
My Portfolio presents original report evidence with the available reporting context. It should be read as historical evidence, not a promise of what a new campaign will produce.
Confirm ownership and handover
Clarify who owns the advertising accounts, billing, landing pages and creative files. Use the platforms’ supported access permissions rather than sending passwords in an enquiry.
Also ask what happens when the engagement changes or ends. The business should understand what can be handed over, what documentation exists and whether any assets depend on a third-party licence or agreement.
These questions are practical housekeeping. They help avoid confusion when several people contribute to a campaign or when the business changes suppliers.
Choose a scope you can evaluate
Before making a decision, request a clear explanation of the first stage. It might be an audit, campaign setup or ongoing management. Identify the required inputs, responsibilities, fees and business actions that will guide evaluation.
If your main need is hands-on Google Ads or Meta Ads management with multilingual support, an independent PPC consultant may fit. If the project needs a wider production operation, assess how that resource will be supplied.
